SARFC U14s vs Finchley RFC U14s

Saracens Amateurs U14s Fall Short Against Finchley RFC in HML League Opener

Final Score: Saracens Amateurs RFC 17 - 32 Finchley RFC

In a spirited opening match of the HML League, Saracens Amateurs U14s battled valiantly but were ultimately outmuscled by a strong Finchley RFC side, falling 17-32 at home. Finchley dominated the first half, scoring four unanswered tries and controlling the scrum, but Saracens came out fighting in the second half, showing grit and determination until the final whistle.

First Half:

Sarries started well but Finchley came on strong, opening the scoring in the 9th minute with a well-worked try, though they missed the conversion. Just five minutes later, they crossed the line again but failed to add the extras. Saracens struggled to match Finchley’s power at the scrum, and by the 21st minute, the visitors extended their lead to 17-0 with a converted try. Finchley’s fourth try came just before the half, making it 22-0 by the break.

Despite the challenging first half, Saracens kept their heads up and refused to let Finchley’s dominance affect their spirit.

Second Half:

Saracens came out with renewed energy in the second half, immediately putting pressure on Finchley’s defence. Their persistence paid off in the 39th minute, with Julian crossing under the posts for Saracens’ first try, expertly converted by Josh to bring the score to 7-22.
Finchley responded quickly, scoring another try at the 44-minute mark, but Saracens weren’t done yet. Sapir powered through for a second try for Saracens just four minutes later, narrowing the gap to 12-27 after the missed conversion.

Finchley added another try in the 52nd minute to extend their lead, but Saracens had the final say. In the 58th minute, Julian broke through Finchley’s defence again to score his second try of the day, capping off an impressive second-half fightback. The match ended 17-32, with Saracens winning the second half 3 tries to 2.

Standout Performances:

Jacob was a defensive wall for Saracens, making an incredible 11 tackles, several of which saved certain tries. His tireless efforts in defence were key in keeping Finchley’s attack at bay.

Moody was a force at the breakdown, winning two penalties through jackaling and being consistently first to the ruck. His efforts were recognized by Finchley, who named him their Man of the Match.

On the opposing side, Saracens named Finchley’s No. 13 as their Man of the Match, after his two-try performance and dynamic presence made a clear difference in the game.

Conclusion:

While Saracens were outplayed in the first half, their second-half resurgence showed the team's heart and resilience. Despite the loss, they can take plenty of positives from the match, particularly their ability to bounce back under pressure and keep playing with pride until the final whistle. With debutant Bobby showing promise and strong individual performances across the team, Saracens will be looking to build on this effort in their next outing.
